The List: Try Ethiopian Food

One of my favorite things about living in Chicago is that I can get authentic, delicious food of just about any country of origin. Chinese food? Sure! Indian? No problem! Ethiopian? Of course! It's not difficult to find multiple restaurant choices that are run by people who know what they're doing.
I've always been intrigued by Ethiopian food, but I've never actually eaten any! Many of my friends LOVE Ethiopian food, but somehow I missed the boat. That's why it landed on The List. A couple weeks ago, one of Bossyboots' and my "couple" friends invited us out to dinner at a place we've been wanting to try... Ethiopian Diamond. Of course we had to say YES! I had camera FAIL because I didn't know my battery was dead though... Sorry. We'll have to make do with Google Images.
The way Ethiopian food works is that you eat communally. Everyone picks out a sort of stew or assortment of choices from the menu, then the food is served on a single, huge serving platter. No silverware. You use injera - which is a sort of pancakey bread - to pick up pieces of the stews to eat.

Anyway, I had no idea what I was doing, so our friends had to help me choose. I selected a lamb, rosemary, peppers, and onions stew. Bossyboots picked out a shrimp, chicken, and lamb stew. Our friends made a vegetarian selection and then also a tilapia stew. Our food all came out on a platter very much like what you see in the photo above.
The verdict? I LOVED it! The food was A1 delicious, and I highly recommend trying it out. I know I'm going to want to make this a regular occurrence in my eating life. It was so, SO good.
Are you an Ethiopian food enthusiast? What's your favorite Ethiopian restaurant, and what do you love to order???

I've only been once in LA - I don't even know the name of the place - but I loved it! I remember the bread things having a sour-dough taste, did your bread taste that way too?
Yum! I never know what to order...I always let my brother do the ordering, but it's always delish :)
