Facebook is Good for SOMETHING

I enjoy Facebook.  It keeps me up-to-date on all my friends' happenings, latest photos, etc. - Facebook is also unparalleled in the cyberstalking department, so you know I love it.  However, we all know the fun of being inundated with lame-o "causes" and overanxious, oh-so-passionate status updates.  In my book, if it isn't funny, I don't want to hear it.  I mean, I'll read it, but then I'll judge you and write my own holier-than-thou response.

Anywho, although Facebook can annoy the daylights out of me, it is good for something.  Almost everyone has a Facebook page, so I've reconnected with lots of people that I lost along my twenties.  I even found my fourth grade boyfriend on there!  Nothing says young love like a plastic heart bracelet.

I have had a few best friends in my life, but one is a girl that I went to grade school with and then stayed friends through about our sophomore year of college.  Really, we never stopped being friends, but I moved away, then she moved - and all this was before the ease of email.  Somewhere we just lost track of each other.  When we were little kids, our favorite activity was reading Anne of Green Gables books aloud and then pretending we were Anne and Diana.

We loved reading so much that we even got halfway through writing our own book before we bored ourselves with it.  That's right, Nerd Alert.  Our idea of the perfect Friday night was eating candy and staying up all night writing our book.

We also loved to cook.  Most weekends, we'd hang out at one of our houses talking in Julia Child voices and making cookies.  No seriously, Julia Child voices for about an hour straight.  Then we'd make a picnic and go back to pretending we lived in Avonlea.

Hey, I never pretended to be cool.

Anyway, over the years, I tried to find her to say hi and see how she was doing.  I could never find her!  All manner of internet tools were employed, to no avail.  It made me sad because I always wanted to find her so we could be friends again.

Well, guess what, Sista joined Facebook and found me.  Last summer, she sent me a message and wasn't sure I'd remember her.  Ummm, "I've only been looking for you for five years!!"

It made me really glad that we found each other again.  And the funniest thing?  For roughly the last year and a half we have lived within driving distance to each other.

Who would have thought.  :)

And just for fun, a montage of funny Anne of Green Gables moments set to polka music, as envisioned by YouTube.  You're welcome.

How UDUProductions never won an Oscar, I'll never know.

Anne of GG and polka, two of my favorite things. I always knew you were a kindred spirit.

You know I love Anne of Green Gables, since my husband and I got engaged on PEI! Kindred spirits indeed.

I also found a close friend of mine who I lost touch with over the years - & found out she lives in Milwaukee! I agree, FB rocks for stuff like this :)

Umm, I'm only good for half of a nerd alert, because although I'm a crazy avid reader, I've never read Anne Of Green Gables...I have, however, seen the movie series a bajillion times! Major crush in Gilbert Blythe, sigh. Ok, maybe that is worth a full nerd alert :)

Oh, Anne. I loved her. I wanted to BE her.

I loved her so much. I remember watching the series at my Grandma's house when I was little! Brings back good memories!

Damn, I just quit Facebook for now! But it really is amazing at linking old friends, isn't it? That's awesome that you found each other after all of these years! Yay for Anne of Green Gables!
